Strong Yerke is a piece inspired by the Strong Yerke mission. Seven friends decided in 1974 that they wanted to keep in touch and made a daring plan ( A bold plan ) to make a raft and sail to Grou. The raft was named after a local historical hero, "Sterke Yerke". This was the first raft Sterke Yerke I .

The second raft they built a few years later, in 1976, was to sail across the Channel to London. And there the friends got the idea to make another raft to cross the Atlantic, but more importantly to be involved in the environment for a better world ( For a better world ).

In 1978 a foundation was established and the Strong Yerke III built. The plan was to sail to Curacao and measure the amount of pollution they encountered. On December 15th tragedy struck, they stranded ( Stranded! ) on the cliffs of the east coast of Bonaire.

Three salvage attempts failed, but six years later the raft was finally recovered after a final attempt ( Salvaged! ). The crew repaired the raft and were able to complete their journey.

Even today, Sterke Yerke is still fighting for a better world without plastic in the seas: "Plastic waste must be removed from the streets, from nature, from the beach and from the sea. We would prefer to see less and less plastic in our lives. Manufacturers and governments are already doing a lot about it, but it must be better and faster. This is possible if the larger community is aware of all the unnecessary plastic and that we as consumers can and must now make a difference." To draw attention to this, the Sterke Yerke IV was built.
