Saint Lambert was written on behalf of Chr. Muziekvereniging Jeduthun Oldemarkt for their 110th anniversary (1905-2015). The work is based on the legend of Saint Lambert. He was appointed Bishop of Maastricht in the seventh century. The work opens with the main theme followed by the Saint theme. In the first part the unstable political situation is depicted that eventually leads to the banishment of Lambert. In the second part we find Lambert braving the snow and cold while he continues to mumble his prayers, this miracle leads to his eventual declaration as a saint. In the third part it is Ascension Day in Oldemarkt where the Lambertusmarkt takes place and we hear the Bach chorale “Als Vierzig Tag nach Ostern”.

The downloadable audio track can be used in the second part for the effect of a snow storm.

This work is in the Great Repertorium for fourth division brass band

“Special compliment for the choice of compulsory works. I especially experienced the work Saint Lambert by Geert Jan Kroon as a good test piece.”
