Love Divine is a work that uses the hymn Blaenwern. The text begins with the sentence “Love divine, all loves excelling” I made different associations with that text. This has led to two musical themes derived from Blaenwern.

The work begins with feelings of air, purity and rippling. The oboe and bassoon play solos on a bed of slow accompaniment. Next we hear Blaenwern, a preview of divine love. The work continues with an earthy, peaceful and rooted feeling. This culminates in the second part of Blaenwern. A brief return to the pure rippling feeling brings us to the conclusion in which the hymn can be heard in full and culminates in a grand conclusion.
