Saint Lambert was commissioned by Chr. Muziekvereniging Jeduthun Oldemarkt for their 110th anniversary (1905-2015). The work is based on the legend of Saint Lambertus. He was appointed bishop of Maastricht in the seventh century. The work opens with the main theme followed by the sacred theme. The first part depicts the unstable political situation that eventually leads to the exile of Lambertus. In the second part we find Lambertus braving the snow and cold as he continues to mumble his prayers, this miracle leading to his final declaration as a saint. In the third part it is Ascension Day in Oldemarkt where the Lambertus market takes place and we hear the Bach chorale “Als Vierzig Tag nach Ostern”.
The downloadable audio track can be used in the second part for the effect of a blizzard.
This work is in the repertory of the RiC and can therefore be used at competitions in the fourth division.
